David Rowley

< Back to Trophies & Awards

David was still only a school boy when he died tragically after colliding with a vehicle.

This happened during an evening 10mls. club event when he was negotiating the half-way turning point at the White Mare Pool on the A184 Sunderland to Newcastle road in the early 1960s.
Last year’s commemorative race (2004), held within a Ferryhill Wheelers open promotion in August, was the 42nd consecutive occasion for which the silver trophy had been competed since its inception in 1963.
The trophy was donated by David’s parents, who thought it a fitting way for their son to be remembered.
