Crit / Road Racing

Many of our members take part in criteriums and road races. The club has recently returned to the racing scene and is one of the most successful in the region (3rd 2012, 2nd 2013).
Most races in the region are well attended by club members of all levels and this is a great opportunity to get an introduction to racing with some friendly faces. This includes road racing, crits and cycle-cross.
For an insight into what it's like - read the blog post by one of our riders What's your first road race really like?
Sunderland Clarion Crit Series
The club organises its own criterium series at Hetton Lyons Country Park - you can find it on the Events page.

During the winter, plenty of members take to the trails on their CX bikes. The best thing about cross is just about anyone can have a go at it!

We also have a few CX racers with numbers growing rapidly.  An hour riding in mud is tough, but if you have an offroad capable bike there will awlays be a race to have a go at, from a complete beginners Go Cross race, through to the NECCL to the British Cycling CXNE all held in the North East.
It keeps you sharp through the winter, a lot better than grinding out endless road miles on an icy morning, and will improve your bike handling skills. Come springtime you've maintained your fitness with improved confidence on the bike, just in time for those early season Criterium races!
