National Clarion CC Clubman of the Year
Bill Childs, our club president, has been awarded the
National Clarion Clubman of the Year award following his nomination by
Caroline Golightly. This is in recognition of Bill’s long and dedicated
service to Sunderland Clarion, the National Clarion and cycling in the North
East.
I’m sure that all members and friends of Bill will congratulate him on this
award which gives some recognition to the many years he has devoted to
the club and promoting cycling in general.
Congratulations Bill from all of us here at the club

Well it didn't rain after all on Sunday - in fact the sun put in an appearance by the end of the day, but it was a cold and windy time over the top to Tan Hill on the way out. Even the sheep were hiding behind the Inn out the way of the wind, but it was all worth it for the long descent, except for Matt who managed to mangle his chain around his bottom bracket and losing 4 links in the process. Another trip to Evans this week then....

A reminder to club member about our reliability ride this Sunday 7th, meeting at Richmond at 9am to take in Tan Hill on the way to Kirkby Stephen, then back down Wensleydale.
According to the weather forecast the British summer is back . . . so mudguards, overshoes, leg-warmers and winter gloves and waterproof jackets could be the order of the day then!
PS. Try to wear your club kit is possible so we can have a new picture for the website.
1st April
Club meeting to be held at The Blue Bell in Fulwell tonight as the Whitburn centre is currently closed. No, this is not an April fools joke !
22nd March
Just got back from the Killhope Grimpieur today. A serious headwind all the way to Nenthead saw average speeds plummet and riders being blown all over the road.. But it was worth it coming down from Killhope Cross at 50mph with that taiwind and all the way along the valley back to Stanhope.
Our thanks go to Joe Applegarth and all the others from Houghton CC who helped make this this a very 'enjoyable' event - same time next year then. AC

Sunday, February 8, 2009 - Club run
Nobody turned out this morning from our group as most of us couldn't even get out of our front streets because of the ice. I ended up on the turbo for 2 hours doing some intervals until I noticed that the ice was melting. . . . but still stayed indoors as I had put the coal fire on earlier. AC

- Club Run - Sunday, February 1, 2009
Eight of us out this morning including two new lads Matt and Tony who joined us today on the club run.
It was cold and windy but thankfully dry for once so we ended up going to Horsley so only a 50 miler for most of us.. Unfortunately Matt took a tumble coming down from Crawcrook to Wylam but luckily he only ended up with a sore shoulder on his maiden ride, even though he smashed his helmet on the road as he went over.
Soup at 10:30am !
Freezing cold and strong easterly headwind all the way back with hailstones and a bit of snow just for good measure in the last 3 miles. Still, at least I didn't have to clean my bike this week with it being dry most of the way. I hope it's better weather next weekend. AC
