Sunderland Clarion Open 25 Time Trial Results

Jonathan Gavaghan (Wansbeck CC) won the Sunderland Clarion Open 25 Time Trial. On what appeared to be a relatively still, dry morning in Ponteland, this belied what was going to be a stern headwind on the testing outward leg, on what is a rolling but gradual climb to the turn. Needless to say the tailwind combined with the relatively downhill return leg benefited the riders greatly. In the end 3 riders slipped under the hour mark, with Jonathan Gavaghan winning in a time of 58:55, narrowly beating Simon Clark (GS Metro) by 3 seconds. Geoff Mount (WestbrookCycles.co.uk/Scott) rounded out the top three with a time of 59:27. The first Sunderland Clarion rider was Iain Beveridge, with a time of 1:04:25, winning the clubs David Craig Memorial Trophy at his first attempt. The inter club competition, the Jack Trusty Memorial Trophy, between Sunderland Clarion, Cestria and Houghton CC was won for the third year in a row by Rick Mitford of Cestria.
